You Can Probably Guess Who the Winner Is
-
On the plus side: drivers have plenty of awesome options to choose from if they want something that's swift, sporty, and adrenaline-packed.
On the down side: drivers have A LOT of options, and only one is going to be the best.

If you've been keeping up with the auto industry lately, you'll know that two vehicles, the Civic Type R and the Golf R, stand out from the pack. It shouldn't surprise you to know that the R in both of these model types stands for Racing. That said, only one of the two can clinch first place. Let's take a look!
-
SPEED
Let's start with the important one: how much vroom drivers can expect to get. The Honda Civic Type R clocks in at an impressive 4.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 MPH, which is slightly behind the Volkswagen Golf R's 3.9 second, 0-60 MPH speed.
-
PERFORMANCE
Of course, there's more to driving than just speed. To that end, the Honda Civic Type R features a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve inline-4 engine that's shackled to a robust manual transmission. While going manual might seem like a step backwards in 2022, it allows for a greater degree of control and precision over the vehicle's mighty engine.
-
Meanwhile, the Volkswagen Golf R sports a similar turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve inline-4, although this system is shackled to an automatic transmission that notably impedes the vehicle's top-level performance.
-
With performances that are nearly neck-and-neck, the deciding factor in this clash of titans is the transmission in both vehicles. Ultimately, the Volkswagen Golf R's performance can only be as robust as the vehicle's automatic transmission allows, which slightly impedes the performance drivers can expect to get from it. For drivers who are willing to once again grab a manual transmission, the Honda Civic Type R offers a degree of precise power that's just as comfortable in the carpool lane as it is on the race track.
